Went to Leah's baby shower today. People really take care of you when you have a baby. She got everything! She's so cute with her big belly and her tiny little self. Livie is really prego too and she did a great job on the shower. I kinda want a baby now, but not really. I forgot to put the chip in my camera, so no pictures ...boo!

Making a blue/white Magic deck. A lot of dodging other cards. There are so many cards to go through though! These are just the new ones. We bought a fat pack today, but nothing good. I have a blue/white plainswalker though!!
Just tried out my new deck against Josh's poison one. I lost 3-0 :( I need to trade out for some lands.

I have been into zombies and such lately. The yumminess for brains first began when Josh introduced to me to all these cheesy zombie flicks. I never really saw such cheesy goodness. However, I stuck to my guns about playing Halo 3 though. I would play old school Mario, Zelda, or Tetris at home and bring my knitting to the Halo parties. Now, with the onslaught of Halo 3 madness; I've been pulled into the destruction. I'm really bad, as any newbie would be, but the Halo parties are fun. There is another zombie game that I'm playing called Urban Dead. I'm a zombie and love to eat brains! brh? you say. I'm starting to see how the pull for havoc. gahhrrr. Oh, yeah, and I want this from threadless, but *boo* it's not a T-shirt yet >_<...

"A monk becomes his own lamp and refuge by continually looking on his body, feelings, perceptions, moods, and ideas in such a manner that he conquers the cravings and depressions of ordinary men and is always strenuous, self-possessed, and collected in mind."- I must remember this instead of always putting my troubles on my friends...I have the knowledge and intuition to help myself when I'm troubled. Oooops, if you read my journal entry for "Exploring Florida," when I went to South Beach, then you may have noticed that I accidentally said that Miami is full of Post-Modernism Art, but what I mean to say is Art Deco. Actually, "South Beach in Miami, FL has the largest collection of Art Deco architecture remaining in North America. So, I've been researching it and if you would like to know about it, then here's my rendition." ( Read more... )

| Entering into the Tao |

So, I read up a bit on the Tao, from an article that Joe Wu told me was really good. Apparently, you can't learn this , but you have to live it. Anything you learn about the Tao is just someone else's rendition of it, when the real Tao for you will actually be found within you. The way that you live your life the best that you can, within the environment around you. Now, this is hard, because, unfortunately in the West, we live in a predominately corrupt institution, which we must reject if we are to follow the Tao. In other words, we cannot believe all that is said to us, esp. those little phrases that you hear all the time and just assume are true (i.e. you're a winner or a loser). To understand the Tao, then you must embrace chi and the yin and the yang, while you dispose of extremes. No, you are not always a winner or loser, but there is a moderate part of life that you can thrive in via practicing love and peace to get you ready to live the Tao with a clear vision. Here, this moderation idea works wonders in any event, or at least is supposed to. I'm trying to practice more moderation in my life because I know that I've been too extreme and that can wear you down, get you in trouble, and completely bring things that are good to a metal-crunching stop. Consequently, when you do not experience things, then you do not grow or learn and where does that get you? ( Read more... )

I was a bit distressed on Friday because I think I might have made the principal angry where I'm working (a small school, where I'm a long-term sub for 6th grade lang. arts). These children that I have are a really wild class. It is so hard to get their attention and keep them in control. I've taken lots of steps for classroom management including calling all the parents to go over classroom rules within the 3 weeks that I've been there. Anyway, what happened was that during the 6th grade lunch, the Principal and Vice Principal were tasering a pit bull in front of the students. The children said that these men were giving the thumbs up and smiling; therefore, I don't think that they understand the psychology of 11-yr-olds. The children came into my class crying and extremely upset. They took it upon themselves to rally up all the students to write the principal letters, including getting out dictionaries and telling each other to make them sound professional. My hardest students to handle were the leaders in this episode, so I figured that it was a good learning opportunity because of how passionate they were. I did not read the letters because I was researching articles on the net to educate them on tasering animals. I was gonna just collect the letters, but they insisted on turning them into the principal personally. I told them to do it after class, but they were begging me to let them go immediately, so 15 minutes before the last bell I two of them go and they were not given the opportunity to speak to the principal even though he was right there. However, he did receive the letters and gave an announcement, over the intercom, on how they basically offended him and then lightly rehashed the reasons for tasering. I wrote him an e-mail explaining how I wanted to turn it into a good educational opportunity and that if they were not able to turn the letters in themselves that it may hinder them from standing up for themselves in the future.( Read more... )

| Classroom management |

Yeah, so I've got a lot of classroom adjustments to make in regards to gaining respect. They don't listen to me at all!! Well, it's mainly this one class, but I have them twice and the last time is after they have lunch and P.E. They all have ADHA! My colleagues are all great! They are very helpful with suggestions and support. I would have liked to control those kids myself, but eventually I had to give in and ask the In School Suspension guy (Carl) to come and talk to my kids. Eventually all of upper-management got involved, but that's not a bad thing because they upped the consequences for discipline. For example, boys now get 3 licks and 2 days of ISS and girls get 5 days ISS...also, if they get wrote up twice or more, then they get OSS. Worked for about 3 days though and now I'm back to where I was...giving lunch detentions without them squealing at all. Only, these lunch detentions are going to be in my room now, so we'll see what happens on Mon.
I also had my first run-in with a mother a few days ago, and it was after a class that got me so pissed that I started crying. I was also crying cause I don't want to write them up, but I can't show favoritism and now I'm making more enemies. It's just that I need respect and am doing whatever to get it, although using people as examples isn't even working. So, this mom came at me very aggressive and then after I explained myself she cussed her son for all he was worth. Then, the next day, that same kid put a note on some kid's back that said "insert here," with an arrow pointing towards the asshole, so the mother was back up at the school and will be following him all around on Mon. and sitting in on classes.
Another person that will be sitting in on my classes on Mon. is Mr. Wilson. He received teacher of the year and so Mrs. Karen told me that she would take that class on Wed. for library, while I go and sit in on his to learn classroom management. He gave me some resources and a checklist to go over with, as well as whatever he notices while watching the class. Also, Christine Hall, a ESE teacher said that she would come and help with the classes a few days a week cause her ESE kids are in there. She also helped me move out a couch that was really bad for unstructured kids.
So, like I said, everyone is really supportive and keeping me going. I'm gonna call all the parents on Mon. and tell them about my situation, rules and develop a relationship.

Wow! Good thing that u can only read this journal entry and not hear me speak because my voice is about gone after the past, and first, week of teaching >_< i have this really hyper class twice and the second time is the last period of the day, after lunch and P.E. The kids r uncontrollable. I don't want to write them up, but eventually a couple days ago I just had to so that they would know that i meant business. yeah, i made some enemies, but i'm gonna have a talk with them and let them know that i'd rather them hate me and learn, as well as let others learn in my class, then be their friends. after that day that i finally lost it, i got a lot of sweet presents. oh yes, i have other consequences before an office referral, like writing an essay on what they think they did wrong, and how they can improve themselves, then i have a private talk with them, which they seem to appreciate and think about (well, i believe so because the eyes didn't glaze over, and some even had true admiration and respect in them). so yeah, i never thought that it would be a piece of cake and i'm glad to be broken in. oh yeah, the presents that i got were: an origami fish that a boy gave me after i told them that i practice it, a sketch of zelda, and an i'm sorry note that says they r sorry for giving me a headache and that they "love ya girl." these presents made me feel really good, except that they r from some of those that i have to get onto constantly and i'm gonna feel even worse when i have to do it again.
well, we did a really fun project on friday that they all seemed to like...we made myspace profiles with magazine clippings on poster board that i stapled all around the room to brighten it up. we r reading "The Westing Game," and it has soooo many characters, because it is a mystery novel and there are a lot of suspects, so hopefully this will help those people sink into their little spongy minds a bit more (since lit. is unfortunately not what they sponge up). also, they seem really into trying to find clues throughout the story and my confidence is building up because i get all excited and into the book when i talk about it and most of them feed off that. i believe this is going to be a wonderful experience. all of the other teachers are amazing and helpful. so, overall, i'm enjoying myself, except for the weariness that comes along with it, but hey, at least i'm staying out of trouble. i like being responsible, and should, since i am an adult now.

The baby goats were born 2 days ago ^_^ Bittersweet though, cause the little boy died today. My mom, Stacy, and I tried to save it by warming it up and feeding it goat milk in a bottle, but it was just way too weak. The mother rejected it...she didn't even clean it. It was really amazing just to watch it get a little more strength. :[
The little girl is sooo cute though:

My mom and I have been working on a garden for a couple months now...and it's turning out nice. It's my first garden, besides my row in 8th grade Ag that completely croaked. When we first began, we transplanted broccoli, cauliflower, and leeks. The rest of the garden was planted with seeds: spinach, lettuce, turnips, radishes, and other things i'm not sure of because we forgot to address them. We poured fertilizer down in the dirt before the seeds or transplants. There are pics behind the cut! ( Read more... )
